 About Us

562834_273245496122437_575293608_nLaie Palms Cinemas is a newly renovated 2 screen theater located in the Laie Shopping Center in Laie Hawaii. The theater was previously operated by a major theater chain before it was shut down in April of 2008. Don and Alicen Nielsen, new residents of Laie and serious movie lovers, took on the project of reopening the theater. Working in concert with the owner of the shopping center, renovations began in March 2009. Renovations included a new roof, new air conditioning system, new wall and ceiling coverings with acoustic soundproofing, upgraded sound and projection equipment, upgraded seating as well as a new concession stand and lobby. The theater officially reopened on July 17, 2009 showing Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Ice Age II. The community came out in full force selling out most of the weekend shows. Laie Palms Cinemas offers primarily first run movies with some occasional second run features, focusing on G-rated, PG-rated, and select PG-13 films. The concession stand offers a variety of reasonably priced snacks, including real butter on the popcorn. In March of 2013, Laie Palms Cinemas made a major investment in converting to top-of-the-line digital projectors and digital surround sound processors. The picture and sound quality is top notch and provides a superb cinematic experience. In the crazy world of corporate buyouts and the demise of small businesses, Laie Palms Cinemas is proud to be one of the last truly independent family-run theaters in Hawaii. Our Vision is to provide the northern Oahu communities a clean, safe, convenient movie alternative with a small town personal feel. We would appreciate your patronage and look forward to seeing you at the movies.
